 Latin Motion Dance Company

What is the Latin Motion Dance Company all about?

Mission Statement
Latin Motion is a dance company dedicated to the advancement of Salsa and Latin dance through the training of advanced students and the performance of Salsa and other Latin dances.

How do I join?

Everyone who joins has to "try out" or audition for the Company (team). Recommendations from friends are welcome and strongly considered. You do not need a partner, but of course you are welcome to join with one. Upon completing a successful try out/audition you will be given an offer to join a certain level of the team. There are three different levels for members of the group:

Levels

Advanced Student Level (Non-performing):  This level is for those who want to improve their skill, become advanced dancers and work toward mastery of Salsa and other Latin Dances.  No member is required to perform.

Student Group Performer Level:  This level is for those who want to improve their skill, become advanced dancers and work toward mastery of Salsa and other Latin Dances. In addition, these students will be afforded the opportunity to perform student choreographies (dance shows) or advanced Salsa demonstration dances at various local venues (studios, clubs, county fairs, and other events).

Advanced Performer Level: This level is for those who are advanced dancers that want to improve their skill, work toward mastery of Salsa and other Latin dances, and perform. In addition, these students will be afforded the opportunity to perform advanced Cabaret-style choreographies (dance shows) or advanced Salsa demonstration dances in various local and regional venues (in theaters such as the Kennedy Center, studios, dance halls such as Glen Echo, nightclubs, county fairs, and other events). Also, opportunities to perform nationally and internationally may be available.

What are the benefits?

You may have the opportunity to:

  • Learn Advanced Nightclub style Salsa on 1 and New York Style Salsa "on 2"
  • Perform: Dance shows (choreographies), or demo dances (non-choreographed performances)
  • Get paid to perform *
  • Receive VIP treatment at clubs
  • Receive discount passes
  • Free attendance to special events
  • Co-teach with the directors of the group
  • Teach under the umbrella of Latin Motion

What are the requirements?

Requirements vary depending on a member's skill level. Advanced dancing takes a bit of commitment. Typically, that translates to money and time. Scholarships are available depending on the level of skill and talent at the time of audition (when entering the company).

Company members pay for the cost of rehearsal (i.e.studio time, etc.), for costumes for shows, and for all other related expenses to the team (see paid performances below). Advanced Performers may negotiate their own deal/payment or compensation package. Compensation is based on talent.

* Some members may get paid to dance. For details, speak to the Artistic Director, Keith Givens.
